Finding Refuge in the Chaos
We believe that God is present, loving, and speaking! At Fall Retreat, you’ll have the opportunity to develop friendships and deepen a relationship with God. Through interactive prayer, worship, small group discussions, and scripture study, you’ll learn more about the abundant life God has for you and how God walks with you through life’s ups and downs.
We are so excited to be welcomed at the St. John XXIII Pastoral Center in beautiful West Virginia for our Fall Retreat this year. While some of us may come from a Catholic faith tradition, we recognize that others of us do not.
InterVarsity is an inter-denominational space that holds space for various forms of Christian expression. As we are in a Catholic space this weekend, there will likely be things that are different or unfamiliar. We want to invite everyone to enter with a posture of openness and curiosity.
Make sure to register by October 16! See schedule and speakers below!

SPEAKERS
Tammy Eckhart
Regional Ministry Director, Rivers & Rails What I appreciate about the Psalms: I love using the Psalms in my prayer practices - they give me words when I'm struggling to find my own. I especially like to read/pray the Psalms aloud. My Halloween costume this year: I let my 9 & 11yo boys help me answer this one. 11yo says I should be the Facebook logo. My 9yo says I should be a gwim reaper (which he says is a baby grim reaper...) What I'm looking forward to at Fall Retreat: I'm looking forward to God meeting us at Fall Retreat - I strongly believe God honors any action we take to seek him more. Plus, fall in West Virginia is just beautiful! |
Jon Hietbrink
Vice President, Central US What I appreciate about the Psalms: I love PRAYING the Psalms-- I feel like they've been like a spiritual guide to teach me how to talk with God. My Halloween costume this year: I'd probably go with Spiderman as he's my favorite Marvel hero, but would have to make sure it's a loose-fitting version, because me and spandex is a bad combo. What I'm looking forward to at Fall Retreat: Can't wait to encounter God in community! |
Ely Ducatel
Area Ministry Director, East Ohio and Western Pennsylvania What I appreciate about the Psalms: The book of Psalms is where I go to settle down and experience God's peace. I often pray the Psalms over my life. My Halloween costume this year: Last year was the first time I celebrated Halloween with my family and it was fun! I would probably be the same chef again cooking up my 2-year-old lobster. Trick or treat! What I'm looking forward to at Fall Retreat: I believe God wants us to rest in his presence and Fall Retreat is a place where you can experience that! |
Matt Rogers
Senior Spiritual Formation & Prayer Specialist, Rivers & Rails What I appreciate about the Psalms: I love Psalms and how they teach us to be real with how we are feeling with God. On Sunday morning, I get to share how a Psalm helped me in one of the darkest moments of my life. My Halloween costume this year: I am an undercover Agent of Shield (because my kids always dress up like Superheroes!) What I'm looking forward to at Fall Retreat: I am excited about Fall Retreat because I believe the Lord is going to call us into deeper faith and rest in Him. |
Blake Southerland - Fall Retreat Emcee
Campus Staff Minister at West Virginia State University and University of Charleston What I appreciate about the Psalms: I love how the Psalms ground me in worshipping in the Lord, and how I can use them as my own prayers! My Halloween costume this year: Sully from Monsters Inc. What I'm looking forward to at Fall Retreat: I'm really excited to build community with other people involved in InterVarsity throughout our region and to see how God meets us both individually and corporately! |
